Weekend Recap (Fireworks, Butterflies, and Family Photos)

As I mentioned on the Fourth of July - I spent the weekend with all the extended family at my parents house in Midlothian, VA for a much needed vacation. It was a fantastic weekend full of fishing, Texas Hold'Em, and just good-ole-fashioned time spent with people you love.

The large majority of the photos we took over the weekend were just happy-snaps of the kids playing in the sprinklers and enjoying the basics of a childhood summer. I won't make you look through family photos. (at least not in this post)

We did however, have some beautiful butterflies in the backyard which really wanted their pictures taken. Reagan, my four-year-old, found one, ran up to me, and insisted that I take some pictures of it, before quickly returning to playing with her cousins. I obliged, and captured this photo.

I also, followed some of the tips from last Friday's post, and captured this image of fireworks across the lake from my parents' backyard.

Happy Fourth of July

Fotolia_6401709_XS

Happy Fourth of July! I've had the last couple days off and I've been spending the long weekend down in Richmond at my folks house with all the extended family. (Hence, the slow blogging week)

I'm surely blessed, and I thank God each day to be living here in the United States. I wish everyone a wonderful Independence Day. I'm planning on shooting photos of the fireworks this evening, so I thought I'd leave you with some links to the great resources available on the web featuring this kind of photography.

Blast from the Past: High School Memories

I just want to acknowledge up front that credit for the idea of posting old photos to the blog comes from blogger-extraordinaire, Scott Kelby. As my mother said, "imitation is the highest form of flattery" - so Scott, thanks for the idea.

As most of you know, Rose and I were high school sweethearts and we've been together as a couple since senior year of high school. Just for fun, I thought I'd share a picture from Rose and my prom, Spring 1997.

And yes, I was much too dorky looking to have that cute a girlfriend...
