After dreaming about adding Nikon's flagship camera to our camera bag since its announcement back in August 2007, today was a very special day here at TJP. We've added Nikon's D3 to the lineup and already this camera is awe inspiring. There's no shortage of reviews and articles about its build quality, host of new image processing features, gigantic and stunningly beautiful LCD, and of course its industry leading low-ISO noise performance; however, when you put your hands on one, you really get a sense that the reviews just don't do it justice.
There's a couple of great photos available on Nikon USA's website. If you want to see the detailed product brochure, you can read it (or download it) here.
As is a tradition for me, I'll share the very first photo taken on the camera. This is a shot of our daughter playing in our living room, it is straight out of the camera - except for the RAW (NEF) to JPEG conversion I did in Adobe Lightroom. It was shot at about 8:00pm this evening. The room was lit by the small dining room chandelier about 15 feet away, and a little left over sunlight coming through the window by her feet. It's not the most well composed photo, but at ISO 6400, the D3 allowed me to shoot at 1/125s (f/2.8) If you've tried to shoot a picture of a 3 year old slower than 1/125 of a second, you'll understand why I'm already in love with this camera!
Stay tuned for more as I continue to play with Nikon's D3, and actually learn about all of its amazing new bells and whistles. I look forward to sharing with you.
