MM10 - Photowalking

After a fun-filled morning leading the Worldwide Photo Walk event in Charlottesville, Virginia. I thought it fitting to make today's MM10 all about the best parts of photowalking. I'll be sharing photos from the walk later this week, but for now, here's the Monday Morning 8 (I was going to try to force it to 10, but 8 came quickly and naturally, and I'm all about being genuine) - Best Aspects of Photowalking:
(1) Having a great excuse to take pictures
Photowalking gives you a great reason to leave the house on a Saturday morning, to get out and enjoy the world from behind your camera.
(2) Visiting somewhere you've never been before
On our walk this weekend, a number of participants had never been to Charlottesville or the University of Virginia... they all commented about how great it was to visit such a beautiful, historic location.
(3) Visiting somewhere you've been a million times, but looking at it from a new point-of-view
Having graduated from UVA, I spent many many hours walking the route we walked on Saturday, but when looking at it from the point of view of a photowalk, it forced me to find the less than obvious shots that I hadn't really noticed before.
(4) Meeting other photographers
Making new friends with people that love the same hobby you do is always a good thing.
(5) Learning from other photographers
There's nothing better than picking up new tips and techniques from your fellow shooters, and in a setting like a photowalk, everyone is social and willing to talk shop with the folks around them.
(6) Getting to check-out a wide variety of camera gear
Unlike any review site you can visit, getting to see all the gear with which people practice their craft is a great way to see what you like and what you don't. Hearing from the users, as they're using it, is an added bonus.
(7) Exercise
Self explanatory - I know I certainly don't exercise enough - a couple miles with a backpack full of photo gear definitely counts.
(8) Meeting the locals
For the less timid photowalkers, getting to go up and meet the locals to ask them to be subjects is another source for adding richness to the day.
That's it for now, check back later in the week when I share some shots, from me and the group.

Rob. I'm new to your blog, but I'm glad I found ya. I can't wait to keep up with you and your work through this little site. Hey, it was great to meet you on Saturday and Scott Kelby's effort to make this world wide photowalk a success was such a blessing.
I truly enjoyed my day and enjoyed meeting you and hearing some of your stories, as well. Blessings.
