Great pics! I am not a photographer, but I am curious about how the lighting effects were accomplished in the two pics...in general terms.

Do you have time to provide the answer?

-Derek

My photo, the more abstract of the two, was shot on a street curb. I used an extended cord on my handheld flash and held the flash at the street level (low) and on the left hand side. Thanks for inquiring.

Hi Kim,
I was lucky to stumble across this alley that had a great shadow on the wall. The uneven colored cinder block wall really enhanced that fact. The bikes were nearly in the dark so I hit them hard with an on camera fill flash to get some reflection on different parts of the bikes. Then to finish it off I experimented with LAB color for creating a more interesting color palette.

Thanks Tom/Kim for providing some feedback as to how you achieved your great shots!

Congrats, and thanks again for participating in this month's contest.

- Rob
