Photographic Transformation

One thing I really enjoy about photography is the ability to really push reality far beyond anything you'd really see. This can come from an HDR image, a photoshop "enhancement", some creative studio lighting, or the like. In my opinion, there's definitely a time and place for pushing the envelope, but from time to time, it can certainly be fun. It can even elicit outright laughter from those folks closest to you...

With that in mind, I'll share a couple photos showing the photographic transformation of yours truly.

So I wanted another excuse to share a picture of my girls (and support my beloved University of Virginia) - here's the Rob that most of you know...

Now, take my girls away, add some overhead light in a pitch black studio, about a dozen shots to get a facial expression that almost looks intimidating, and a little photoshop post-processing and you get...

Now I've had a few friends say I look like Kevin Bacon in this photograph... I don't see it... but if you have any acting work and think I'm your man, feel free to give me a ring.

Hope you had a wonderful weekend and that the new week is off to a great start! - Rob

(In case you wanted to know: the second shot was taken with the Nikon D3, Nikon 24-70mm lens at 70mm, f/16 at 1/200sec, under a single overhead AB800 studio strobe, with a 30-degree grid)

Oh my gosh, what a transformation! Don't show that to the little girls or they may have scary dreams!

It's really an awesome result. I'd like to try something like that with my sweet little 11-year-old son. Wonder if I can get anything like it without having any professional lights?

Not Kevin Bacon, but Mark Wahlberg! Put it up side by side with this one:
