National Cherry Blosssom Festival

This weekend was the height of the National Cherry Blossom Festival here in Washington. DC photographer, Shawn Duffy, organized an early morning photowalk for those of us crazy enough to crawl out of bed and meet downtown at 5am. But to those crazy few, the sunrise over the tidal basin, and the early morning lack of crowds, made the trip worth every afternoon yawn.

What was really incredible was the richness of color we found throughout the sunrise and early morning hours. Almost all the shots below are straight out of the camera, with only a little sharpening here and there. The purples, pinks and blues are almost spot on with what we actually saw downtown. What a fantastic experience.

Fellow photographer, Mike MiVille, over at MiVille Photography, took this one of me. Thanks Mike - had fun shooting with you on Saturday. At this point, I'd been awake for four hours already...

If you ever have the opportunity to visit, the National Cherry Blossom Festival is a photographers paradise. Check out the other awesome work from fellow photowalk photographers at the Flickr page Shawn set up.

Saw your post over on dpreview. Really love these cherry tree shots! My favorite is the foutth one down with the branches hanging over the river and the one where the branches frame the monument.

I like the silhouette shot here Rob - very nice collection overall too, but that silhouette is pretty darn cool!

NIcely done. Some beautiful photographs here.
