Wedding Photography - Cami's Bridal Shots - Northern Virginia

Sometimes, it rains on your wedding day. This can be a difficult moment for some brides.

Cami, however, certainly wasn't going to let the weather have any control over her wedding day. With a big smile on her face, her normal bubbly personality, and a bright red umbrella, she decided to simply make it into a photo op.

Portraits - McKinley's Second Birthday - Northern Virginia

One of the things I've found to be true since we started the business back in 2007 is that, often, my personal photos are the very last to get processed. They sit in limbo on my hard drive, sometimes not seeing the outside world for months until I finally have time to pay attention to them. This was the case with the photos from little McKinley's birthday last summer. This one was, by far, my favorite of the bunch. Her little eyes always get to me...

Video From A Past Life

In the days before I was a photographer, I was a band geek.

To be honest, I'm glad I was - because it was through marching band that I met Rose, the love of my life. All through high school, playing saxophone, I participated in pretty much every band the James River High School offered. The band which performed with the school's show choirs was affectionately named, MUJR, short for "The Musician's Union of James River." Without further ado, here, in a video dug out of a closet from my parents house, MUJR performing at Senior Night in 1997. I'm on alto sax on the far left of the group when we first come on stage.

Let the VHS roll...

Technical Difficulties

Hello All,

My apologies - I found something while visiting my folks house this past weekend that I tried to put online for today's post, but it's been delayed due to technical difficulties. Hopefully I'll have it up and running this evening or tomorrow. It should be good for a laugh or two...

Please check back.

Camera Strap Worthy of a Contest

OK, here's the deal.

A couple month's back I came across a piece of equipment that has completely changed my wedding photography experience, and for around 60 bucks it has a awesomeness to value ratio that can't be beat. I'm talking about Black Rapid's RS-5 camera strap. Yes, you read that right... Camera Strap.

Black Rapid's RS-5 is a replacement for your out of the box strap and incorporates a number of features that have made me buy one for both Rose and I. Most importantly, it allows you to stow your camera at your hip between shots, distributing the weight to your shoulders instead of your neck. That alone is enough to dramatically change an 8+ hour wedding shoot, but when you add in storage for memory, business cards, and your cell phone - without obnoxiously loud Velcro (it uses magnets as closures) - you have a near perfect strap for a long day of shooting.

Here's Black Rapid's video, take a minute to check it out. I will warn you, you're gonna want one. (But I might be able to help with that as well...so make sure you keep reading)

Let me say now, this is completely on my own (Black Rapid did not endorse this review or this contest) but I've decided I want to share one of these with one of my lucky readers. Since we haven't had a photo contest yet this year - I've decided that I'm going to give a brand spanking new RS-5 to the winner of TJP's first photo contest of 2011.

Here's the details:

No theme - just submit the photo or photos of your choice. Simple enough!
