Wedding Photography - Cami's Bridal Shots - Northern Virginia

Sometimes, it rains on your wedding day. This can be a difficult moment for some brides.

Cami, however, certainly wasn't going to let the weather have any control over her wedding day. With a big smile on her face, her normal bubbly personality, and a bright red umbrella, she decided to simply make it into a photo op.

Portraits - McKinley's Second Birthday - Northern Virginia

One of the things I've found to be true since we started the business back in 2007 is that, often, my personal photos are the very last to get processed. They sit in limbo on my hard drive, sometimes not seeing the outside world for months until I finally have time to pay attention to them. This was the case with the photos from little McKinley's birthday last summer. This one was, by far, my favorite of the bunch. Her little eyes always get to me...

Wedding - Katie and Patrick - Anticipation

Anticipation. Butterflies in the stomach. Excitement about the amazing event that's now just hours or minutes away. All couples experience it to some degree leading up to their ceremony. As a photographer, a dreaming look, a long-breath, or a moment of pause in the excitement of the wedding day, successfully captured, can represent the kind of personal moments that complete the story.

Wedding - Katie and Patrick - Teaser

Back in July, Rose and I got to shoot the wedding for a wonderful couple (who just happens to be good friends of ours) and I'm spending today and this weekend finishing up their wedding photos for posting. However, when I got to Katie's formal wedding portrait in the church, I couldn't resist sharing it as a teaser for the photos to come.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Milky Way from Shenandoah N.P.

Back on August 7th, around the time of a the new moon and a rare summer night with clear skies, I managed to convince my mom to head up to Shenandoah National Park with me for a night hike. The plan was to head to the top of Hawksbill Mountain, a favorite destination in the park, to use its clear view at the summit to photograph the night sky. At this point, I have to give some serious points to my mom, who despite her fears of being in the woods at night, braved the trip to come along. She did amazingly well and was rewarded, as I was, with some special time together and view of the night sky the way God intended it to look.

The shot below is almost straight out of the camera. I did a very little bit of post processing to remove a little high frequency noise in the shot and to darken the black of the sky, but for the most part the camera did an amazing job capturing the image. As each shot was processed by the camera and eventually displayed on the back preview screen, my mom and I found ourselves sitting in anticipation as each shot popped up. This was the one that got the biggest "WOW! Look at that one!" of the evening.
